The Virtual Realm can be considered a near unlimited space. If one wills it a Virtual World can ignore certain real-space qualities; absorbing the imaginations of those who use it to create a new world. Romanticising this perception of IR technology is the core theme of this moment drawing. The core point of interest starts with the user; sat down in a potential focussed study 'pod', plugging into the Virtual Realm. I wanted to emphasise this pod's link to reality VIA earthen materials. In my opinion, earthen materials like stone are some of the most sensorily stimulating materials; a key criteria that has emerged in discourse regarding the relationship between Real and Virtual spaces. As the person further engages with the Digital Media, this real space breaks down around them; the moment when they escape the Real World, and enter the near infinite Virtual Realm. I believe this to be an essential moment in our Brief. When considering the experience of space, the shift from the real to the digital world can be one of the most overwhelming, yet exciting experience in our typology.
Moving forward, I am left to wonder how this experience may be accentuated by the real space. As Architects, I am left to wonder how spatial qualities like proportion, scale, materials, form, and light (to name a few) can influence how we perceive the Virtual Realm.
Do we want a Contrast or a Blurring? Why?
